Colombia qualifies to the next round of the Copa America after routing Costa Rica

Colombia advanced to the next phase of the Copa Amrica by easily defeating Costa Rica 3-0 in a Group D match played at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

The ‘cafetaleros’ showed their muscle against a weak Central American representative that suffered from the arrivals of James Rodrguez, Jhon Crdoba, Luis Daz and Jhon Arias to the boxes, whom they could never stop.

The Colombian dominance had no effect in the first minutes with mistakes by James and Crdoba and sometimes the timely intervention of the Tico goalkeeper Sequeira. However, that impulse to stop the rival led Sequeira himself to commit a penalty on Crdoba, who Luis Daz was in charge of scoring with a masterful shot to make it 1-0.

But the southern’s domain did not give more goals despite the insistent attack in front of the Costa Rican goal, whose defense multiplied to prevent the goal.

More goals were on the way

It was not until the 59th minute that the score increased with an accurate header from Davinson Snchez, after a corner kick. The South American player went for more and three minutes later, at the 62th mark, Crdoba put the third on Costa Rica’s front, after a pass from James Rodrguez, before the useless exit of Sequeira.

Colombia slowed down the frenetic pace in the last quarter of an hour, although without giving up the attack, but the scoreboard no longer moved. Now the coffee growers, already with six points, will face Brazil in the third match of the group stage and where first place will be defined, now that the Cariocas manage to overcome Paraguay.

In addition, the coffee growers added their 25th undefeated match and showed themselves to be a strong rival to beat sending a message to the rest of the countries participating in the continental tournament.
